Icing Magnetix - Magnetic Nail Polish from Icing

I was lucky enough to get the heads up today from one of my favorite polish bloggers, the PolishAholic, that the accessory store, Icing, was selling magnetic nail polish.  Of course, I ran to the mall immediately and picked up their last 4 magnetic polishes, of which I did a quick skittle swatch for you today to get a peek.  They were buy 1 get 1 half off, regular price $9.00 each and there are four different colors, none of which have names on the bottles.
All of these are 2 coats and the blue one has a top coat of SV as it looks a little on the dull/matte side without it.

So what do you think?  I think you can't beat the price considering the Layla magnetic polishes I bought were $15.50 a pop via internet order and they didn't have the nice little mess up guard on the caps like these do.  I know China Glaze has their magnetic collection coming out soon, but I am not sure what the pricing will be like on those.  I have a feeling they'll be around $12.50 or so, but I hope they are less.  I like that I achieved full coverage in 2 coats and that these the colors and designs are interesting enough.  My favorite was the pink/rosie one and it's squiggle design, followed by the gold one (which looks way more cool in person).  Now the one negative I do have about these was the brushes.  In a nutshell, they sucked.  They were all wonkey and twisted up.  I think out of the 4, only one was normal. Despite this, I managed to get around the irregularity pretty easily, especially since right now my nails are so short (due to a middle finger nail casualty I suffered last week).
I really hope you can find these gems for yourself.  If you can't find them right away due to sell-out, the sales girl my local Icing told me that it was their first shipment of Magnetix, so I imagine they'll be restocking soon.  I also observed that Icing actually has a pretty damn good selection of polishes and nail skins that are very reasonably priced.  Who would have thunk it?  Not me.  I avoid the mall like I avoid people with the sniffles.  I still haven't tried nail skins, so that just might be something I'll pick up on my next haul.
Edit - so apparently the magnetic cap on these polishes pops off so that you don't have to struggle flipping over a loaded brush with cap and hovering it over your wet nail bed. Bonus points!!!!

Btw,  today's nail haul included 3 American Apparels I've been jonesing for, 2 of the new Special Effects flakeys from Finger Paints that I picked up at Sally's and a new butter London from their spring collection, that I grabbed at Dillard's.  I can't wait to get all these swatched soon!

Until next time...

Cult Nails Super Powers Collection Swatches

Today we have a picture heavy post featuring the Cult Nails Super Powers Collection and it’s shining star Clairvoyant, aka Unicorn Puke (gorgeous!).   This was a four pack that I bought on sale over X-mas for $20.00 (or maybe it was $30.00, I can't remember) plus shipping.  Currently, this collection is sold out.  But you can see many many great polishes from this small and fairly new company here : Cult Nails
Let’s get this post started, which will be more photos than words.

First are some photos of the adorable packaging that the polishes came in.  So cute!  FYI - for all the manicures I used a minimum 3 coats and I used a top coat of SV for each.

Clairevoyant reminds me of a stained glass windows, it's so beautiful and colorful and vibrant.  I used this over a base of Time Traveler.  This will look fantastic over black or purple and I can't wait to try some different combos.  I took photos with varying light setting to be able to show off all the ranges of color.

Time Traveler - this one is actually a darker inky blue in the bottle vs what the camera captured.  The nail photos show the color more true to real life.

Power Thief - brownish beige shimmer

Mind Control - dark smokey/black base with purple shimmer

As you can see, while the other polishes are nice, Clairvoyant is the stand out of this collection.  I wonder if there will be another flakey that will show Clairvoyant up this year considering all the polish companies that are jumping on the flakey band wagon for 2012.  I say the more the better!  Same goes for magnetic polishes.  Can you say "china glaze"?  This is going to be a fantastic year for polish, my friends.  I can't wait!

Until next time...

Butter London Black Knight & Tart With A Heart Holiday Dressing Table

What a great way to start 2012!  Butter London, baby!

So today we have a some pics of the Butter London Black Knight & Tart With A Heart Holiday Dressing Table that was available over the holidays and is still available online at Butter London.  I picked my set up at Ulta the week before last.  This is a 2 polish set with a bottle of Black Knight which is described by Butter London as
"A dark dazzler from butter LONDON, this glitter fusion contains black, pink, blue, and silver suspended in a black base. *Limited Edition*" and Tart With a Heart which is a nude-ish glitter.   I have only worn Black Knight so far (which I just applied tonight) thus the following pics, but will be looking to find something to layer Tart With A Heart over in the coming week or so.

The packaging for this set is so cute in theory, but it is very flimsy and does not stand up by itself.  I had to prop mine up in order to take the photos below.  I doubt I will be keeping it very long.  The price was decent and a savings of a whole $3.00 dollars as they are usually priced at $14.00 each bottle of nail laquer.  I used 3 coats of Black Knight with 2 coats of SV for smoothing.  This polish is a fantastic exciting glitter to me.  I like that it has a smokey black base that builds to opaque.  I love that it has mostly purple glitter with flashes of blue, red, gold, silver, and even green glitter (check the out of focus pic).  I just love love this polish and have nothing like it right now.  Thank you, Butter London, for another home run.

And here are the pics...
